Maker Junction - 68 years on from D-Day. Prior to, thousands of Allied troops left this area for the beaches of France, with many never to return....
Launching a new phase of research for Hidden Plymouth, here is a teaser pic of the location we will be holding our first invitation only exhibition later this year. Today, we begin extended research into the build-up for D-Day featuring every site in & around Plymouth that was utilised for the preparations. In 2014, we will present our findings for the 70th Anniversary....until then, we hope you will join us in helping spread the word to gather research & help keep the memories & lessons alive for future generations to learn from & most importantly, preserve the memory of the ones that never returned.
Over time we will bring you a pictorial documentary of the various defences & military structures from around the Heights including coastal gun batteries, WWII anti-aircraft defences & Cold War bunkers.
Today the former accommodation huts at Maker Camp are now known as
Maker Junction, a friendly place where families can retreat from the urban surroundings. An educational place with many life skills to be learnt along with creativity from a wide range of arts & crafts. Make sure to pop by if your in the area for some lovely views, tranquil but sometimes dramatic settings & a cracking cup of coffee or bite to eat, & don't forget to say 'Hi' to Simon from us!
